At the beginning of the 1920s Mikhail Bulgakov creates three stories one after another: Diaboliad (1923), The Fatal Eggs (1924) and The Heart of a Dog (1925). That was spontaneous and impetuous reaction to the "sovietization" of Russia. "The Heart of a Dog" was waiting for its time 43 years. Bulgakov-satirist goes on with the traditions of Russian prose - Gogol and Saltykov-Shchedrin. His early stories already have preliminary outline for future chapters of "Master and Margarita", lyric prose.
