The book is the result of many years of work by art historian Silvia Gros. It seeks answers to questions about the most visually impressive part of Riga's Art Nouveau architecture, the decorative design, which has been viewed fragmentarily by previous publications on Riga Art Nouveau architecture. At the turn of the XIXth and XXth centuries, Riga was a rapidly growing city full of social and political contrasts in what was then the Russian Empire. The economic growth of the city was accompanied by active construction and shortly before 1900, the architecture of Riga reached the then flourishing new art style - Art Nouveau. The Art Nouveau period in Riga can be called the period from 1898 to 1914.
