The book is the result of work of a team of researchers from the University of Latvia and Daugavpils University together with doctoral students and postgraduates from the humanitarian sector participated in oral history and folklore field studies in Daugavpils County. The aim of the authors is to raise public awareness of the cultural and historical significance of this area by presenting a diverse natural and cultural environment that has united the various ethnic, religious and social layers through the Daugava through the ages.
