The monograph examines plants as alternative hosts to crossover pathogens and looks at the prerequisites for the emergence of new biological dangers in plant-based foods. The main focus is on some of the most widespread human and plant pathogens that are highly adaptable to various biological hosts, which is key to their success. The author shows that crossover pathogens can not only vigorously interact with plants but perform part of their own life cycle outside their natural niches. Such facts are particularly exciting because they reveal new aspects of the biology of some microbes which were considered very well studied.
