Miriam Aurora Hammeren Pedersen holds a Bachelor's degree in Development Studies (2013) and a Master's degree in Social Anthropology (2016), both from the University of Oslo, Norway. She is currently working towards her PhD in Anthropology at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Miriam's main research interest is identity issues, especially ethnic identities and race relations. She has previously published three illustrated poetry collections in Norwegian. This book charts the early stage of the author’s journey of gender transition, as well as her process of settling down in South Africa as a fledgling academic. The story is a deeply personal one, but also one that will resonate with other transgender people, migrants, academic hopefuls, and border-crossers of all kinds. As a story of coming to terms with an identity in flux, it illustrates the fundamental open-endedness of all human identities.
