The new Criminal Code of Ukraine came into force on September 1, 2001. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted it on April 5, 2001. The legal ensuring of the protection of human and citizens' rights and freedoms, ownership, public order and public safety, environment, constitutional system of Ukraine against criminal infringements, ensuring the peace and security of mankind, and also the prevention of crimes are its tasks. The code consists of 447 articles comprised in General and Special Parts.
