I went to the honored teacher of Belarus Tamara Yakovlevna Gurevich on the advice or recommendation of her student, colleague and friend Yakov Trembovolsky. From him I learned about the unique archive of Yakov Gurevich, which is kept by her daughter Tamara. Diary, the first entries in which were made before the First World War, in 1913. Letters (postcards) were sent, starting in 1914, then to Russia, and then to the Soviet Union from Argentina and France.
We sat opposite each other. Tamara Yakovlevna is in a rocking chair. I recorded the conversation on a video camera.
During the first meeting, I skimmed through both her father's diary and her father's letters to her mother. The documents are invaluable for this family, interesting for friends and students of Tamara Yakovlevna. I think that many readers who are not familiar with the Gurevich family will not leave them unattended either.
I listened to an interesting story by Tamara Yakovlevna, only occasionally asked her some clarifying questions, and every minute I realized that I would write not only about the archive of the Gurevich family, but also about the children of Yakov and his wife Tsili - about Lita and Tamara, about the time, in which they lived and live. This is how the idea of the book "Near - Far" was born.
