Zubtsov is a town and the administrative center of Zubtsovsky District in Tver Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Volga and Vazuza Rivers. The book runs about the eleven natives of Zubtsov that were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, which was the highest distinction in the Soviet Union, awarded personally or collectively for heroic feats in service to the Soviet state and society.
