The offered book deals with relations between China and Europe, the East and the West. The first part is dedicated to China, it narrates about merchants and missionaries (Jesuits), who appreciated China from the position of their policy of "cultural adaptation" that was the basis of the China's "myth". The book also studies the transformation of idealized interpretation of China by Jesuits into works of European thinkers and philosophers. Particular attention is paid to Chinese art. In general, the book shows how the "myth" of China developed in the perception of European thinkers, writers, artists, masters of applied art.
