Monograph. The book examines the economic, socio-cultural, and environmental aspects of cattle breeding, which continues to be the leading area of economic activity among the rural population of the mountainous regions of the Kyrgyz Republic. The focus is on the anthropology of transformations among modern cattle breeders that have taken place in the post-Soviet period. The paper describes and clarifies issues related to the structure of economic activity, livestock species, adaptation of cattle breeders to market conditions, and the organization and use of pastures. The source base of this work is made up of original empirical data collected by the author in 1998-2023 during field research, as well as official documents, statistics, media materials, etc.
