The Sogdians were a people who inhabited the
historical region in the Zarafshan and Kashkadarya basins in the territory of modern-day Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and partly Turkmenistan. From the turn of the new era, the Sogdians actively traded along the Silk Road between Central Asia, China, and India, and from the 5th century
they created their own unique highly developed culture that existed until the adoption of Islam in Transoxiana in the 8th century.
