The book tells about the defense of the city of Mogilev in the initial period of the Great Patriotic War. In the history of the Great Patriotic War, the defense of Mogilev is on a par with the legendary Brest Fortress. Fierce battles around Mogilev and its environs lasted 23 days and nights, 10 of which were spent in complete encirclement. The defenders of the city fought to the death, showing exceptional self-sacrifice and heroism. Noting the fortitude and tenacity of Soviet soldiers in the battles near Mogilev, the Germans called the city "Mogilev Fortress". As a result of the heroic defense of Mogilev, the Red Army gained time to create a defense on the path of the fascist tank armadas deep into the USSR. It was near Mogilev that fascist Germany suffered a strategic defeat for the first time since the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. It was here in July 1941 that Victory was born. In memory of the heroic defenders of Mogilev, the memorial complex "Buynichskoe Pole" was created.
