This is a work about the turbulent years of World War II. About Ukrainian children who were forcibly taken by Nazis from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk to the Third Reich; about the future fate of these children - prisoners of the Nazi regime; about the children's concentration and labor camps in what was then Germany and the difficult return of the suffering slaves home in the autumn of 1945.
The story is autobiographical, the author changed for various reasons - only some names, names of German cities and streets of Berlin. The rest is true, bitter, cruel at times, which not everyone will like today. However, it was also good, bright: for example, the mutual deep love of a Ukrainian Ostarbeiter boy from Kharkiv and a German girl, Erika Frauline from the capital of the Third Reich.
