The history of Bulgarian writing is inseparably connected with the millennial Bulgarian history. Usually, when we talk about the Bulgarian script, we mean our well-known Glagolitic and Cyrillic. The author jumps over this threshold and attempts to trace the roots of writing far back in time and space. He connects it not only with the fleece-like writing of the Hunno-Bulgarians who invaded Europe, but also with the history of the alphabetic writing and with the earliest writing in general. The new studies are devoted to the Chalcolithic Balkan script and its spread with the so-called a cultural drift to the south, but also to the east, which has so far remained outside the attention of science. I also dedicate a chapter to what was said about the writing in the collection of Rhodope songs, Veda Slovena. A significant part of the advocated theses are original, discursive, supported by a solid historical justification, and the author is not afraid to enter into contradictions with some of the dogmas and cliches accepted in the literature.
