The book gives a brief overview of the centuries-old history of Mongolian Buddhism with a description of the life and work of prominent Buddhist lamas and information about several of the largest Buddhist monasteries. Little-studied or previously unknown archival materials on the history of Mongolian monasteries, such as monastic charters, a number of historical and legal documents regulating the religious policy of Mongolia at different periods of history are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
