This gift edition is dedicated to the history of Buddhism in Buryatia from the 17th century to the present. It examines the emergence of the Buddhist religion in Transbaikalia in the 17th century, its subsequent spread and institutionalization in the Russian Empire in the 18th and 19th centuries, its destruction during the Soviet era, and its revival in the post-Soviet era. The second part of the book is a photo album of archival and contemporary photographs of traditional Buryat Buddhist monasteries (datsans), Buddhist clergy, religious sites (suburgans, oboos), and religious practices.
