The brownie remains the most popular folklore character to this day. This book tells us about the origins of this image, its functions, the ways of interaction with a person, and most importantly, what happens to it when it penetrates into the individual author's work. The authors offer an original method for analyzing folklore images in literature, creating a cultural matrix of the "brownie" and imposing it on works of the 18th-21st centuries. It turns out that along with characters named "brownie", there are characters in literature that are not associated at first glance with folklore, but have the characteristics and functions of a brownie.
