Bogdan Ihor Antonych (Bohdan Ihor Antonych, 1909–1938) is an original poet, a classic of Ukrainian literature. "The Book of the Lion" was composed of selected works that were part of the poet's three lifetime collections ("Welcome to Life", 1931; "Three Rings", 1934; "The Book of the Lion", 1936), two posthumous ones ("The Green Gospel", 1938; "Rotations ”, 1938), as well as texts that were not included in individual editions, including in the collection “Great Harmony” prepared by the author himself (but not printed) [1932–1933]. The section "Sketches, plans, fragments" includes separate materials from the poet's notebooks. The collection of selected works is completed by his speech "Poet's Position", delivered on January 1, 1935, when he received the literary award.
Translations from Ukrainian were made by the best poets of the 20th century, including Eduard Akulin, Mykola Alyakhnovich, Ryhor Baradulin, Genadz Buraukin, Siarhei Zakonnikov, Vasyl Zuyonak, Siarhei Paniznik, as well as contributor and commentator of the publication Vyacheslav Rogoisha. Tatsiana Kabrzhitskaya recreated the prose fragments for the publication.
The new edition is a good opportunity for the Belarusian reader to discover the work of the modernist author, who had a tremendous impact on the development of Ukrainian poetry in the 20th century.
