After 1917 in Russia new power started a real architectural pogrom: scores of memorials devoted to the memory of Russian soldiers were barbarously destroyed and disfigured, hundreds of monuments in honor of the greatest battles of Russian people for freedom and independence of their Motherland were profaned. The majority of them have not been restored. This book touches upon a wide range of topical issues: how this harsh treatment of people’s memory occurred; why everything that could remind about the past fame and greatness was extirpated; who gave orders to destroy all those monuments.
