The first edition of this dictionary was published in 1989 in the United States under the title "Belarusian-racial (Vyalikalitosky-racial) slounik". An innovative work that breaks stereotypes both in relation to the Belarusian language and in terms of how a translated Belarusian-Russian dictionary should look like. It can be used as a manual for the study of the vocabulary of the Belarusian language, in addition to the common one. Contains more than 30,000 words and covers both the active vocabulary of the White-Russian language, and special terms, dialectisms and archaisms.
The dictionary perfectly conveys the peculiarities of Belarusian dialects. Many of the words included in the dictionary, to this day, remain recorded exclusively in this unique work.
When using the dictionary, you must not forget that it was compiled in the last century and therefore some words may look unusual. This is especially true of scientific terminology, where, as a rule, internationalisms dominate - words that did not arise in folk speech, but were borrowed from other languages.
The dictionary takes into account the peculiarities of mastering borrowings in a living folk language. This explains the fixation in the dictionary of such forms as, for example, gastranoma (gastronomy), Geagrafa (geography), geagraphny (geographical), satsalizma (socialism), Khima (chemistry), Khimaterapa (chemotherapy)
