The book recreates the picture of the first presidential elections: the process of collecting signatures, election programs and peculiarities of the election campaign of each of the presidential candidates, the results of the first and second round of elections are analyzed. The results of voting in the first round of elections in all administrative-territorial units of Belarus are given, the reasons for the failure of Vyacheslav Kebich, Zenon Poznyak, Stanislav Shushkevich, Alexander Dubko and Vasily Novikov are stated, as well as an answer to the question of whether Alexander Lukashenko's victory was predetermined. The appendix contains programs of presidential candidates, a chronology of major events in the country during the election period, party documents and other materials.
