The author Kalin Todorov says: "It so happened that my father Stanko Todorov was Prime Minister of Bulgaria for two terms (in the 1970s), speaker of parliament and a long-serving member of the top leadership of the Communist Party. This gave me an opportunity to observe people who played an important role in the country's recent history: Kimon Georgiev, Vulko Chervenkov, Todor Zhivkov, Lyudmila Zhivkova, Boris Velchev, Alexander Lilov, Petar Mladenov and Andrei Lukanov. I was able to learn a lot about the Soviet leaders Joseph Stalin, Lavrentiy Beria, Nikita Khrushchev, Leonid Brezhnev, Yuri Andropov, Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin."
