A novel by renowned Bulgarian writer Ivailo Petrov (1923-2005). It is an expanded version of his "Before I Was Born, and After". When the original version of the novel first appeared in 1968, it came as a surprise to both readers and critics. It mocks the nostalgia typical of Bulgarian rural fiction in the 1960s and revises the conventional ideas of home and family. Blending all-forgiving humor and spontaneous tragedy, it is an open-ended book, in the sense that you can't stick out your tongue at your own death. It is a story in which the end connects to the beginning, a novel in which humor and sorrow join forces in an attempt to peep into death, which seems as curious as life.
