This book presents a selection of news about Bakhchisarai, preserved in the writings of European travelers who arrived in the Crimea after its annexation to Russia in 1783. The published notes of 21 travelers represent a unique combination of factual data on the history, ethnography, economy, architecture and archeology of the micro-region in which Muslim, Christian and Karaite communities coexisted, and subjective assessments that reveal the peculiarities of the European perception of other cultures and the formation of stereotypes about Crimea. The second book is the first published album "A Scenic Journey Through the Crimea" by Reginald Heber and Robert Hay, who traveled across the Crimea in 1807-1807.
