During the years of the protectorate, Jiri Weil was persona non grata, appearing under a pseudonym or code only occasionally, he could only return to regular journalism after the end of the Second World War, and until 1948 he regularly contributed mainly to the weekly Kulturni politika and the monthly Literarní noviny (which he co-edited). After the campaign against his novel Life with a Star (1949) and after his expulsion from the Union of Czechoslovak Writers (1951), he sporadically published articles related to his work at the State Jewish Museum in Prague, where he found employment and apparently human asylum. Compared to the first and second volumes of nonfiction, whose articles were almost exclusively thematic of the literature and culture of the Soviet Union, the author's interest extended to domestic literature and translations from other literatures. However, the reflection of Soviet literature did not stop even after the interruption of cooperation with the communist press (Rude pravo, Tvorba) and the author did not fundamentally change his concept of revolutionary literature.
