The catalogue is dedicated to collection of silver items of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (XVIth-XVIIIth centuries), one of the most interesting parts of the Armory Museum’s collection. It comprises more than one hundred works by the Polish and Lithuanian craftsmen. The publication provides us with an opportunity to follow the long history of the collection, the main part of which consists of the items, brought by the Russian tzars as diplomatic gifts from Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the XVIIth century. The author characterizes the art of polish and Lithuanian silver craftsmen, marks typical and stylistic peculiarities of their work. Ascription of the exhibits relies on new data, which was discovered during examination of the collection and studying a large range of literature, dedicated to the art of commonwealth craftsmen.
