In the XVIIth - XVIIth centuries considerable part of the foreign trade of Irane, the economy of which depended greatly on the export of raw silk, was concentrated in the hands of trade bourgeoisie of the Armenian colony in New Dzhugha, who managed to provide transit of the raw silk though the Caspian Sea to Russia.
