This comprehensive publication presents for the first time the Union of Czechoslovak Works during the thirty years of its existence. The Union significantly modernized not only the field of housing and architecture, but also utility objects, toys, graphic and exhibition design. Its members were progressive representatives of architecture and design in interwar Czechoslovakia, such as Pavel Janak, Ladislav Sutnar, Ludovit Fulla and others. Among their most important achievements were the construction of the first Czechoslovak functionalist settlements in Brno (Novy dum, 1928) and Prague (Baba, 1932), and especially the House of Art Industry in the centre of Prague. The publication introduces the projects in the form of texts by renowned Czech and Slovak authors, together with a rich pictorial supplement of excellent contemporary photographs by Josef Sudek, Jaromir Funke, Frantisek Illek, Alexander Paul and others.
