Reprint. A. Mukhtar’s novel “Amu” reflects the writer’s search for new means of depicting reality. Narration on behalf of the characters often alternates with the author's narration, a psychological analysis of the inner world of the characters - with a description of dramatic events. However, not all the images and motives of the novel are deeply revealed; the author’s depiction sometimes lacks analyticalness, and the events lack epic scale. Although the novel depicts Afghanistan, its complex problems have not been fully and convincingly disclosed.
