The collection contains articles and materials of reports delivered at the international conference "Dialog of cultures: the USA - Kyrgyzstan" conducted in Bishkek on September 27-29, 2001. The authors touch upon such aspects of studying American literature as those of literary criticism, pedagogics and cultural studies in the context of dialog of Western and Eastern cultures. Special attention was paid to the American drama of the XXth century, as well as perception of American literature in Kyrgyzstan, experience of Kyrgyz-American cooperation in education, and problems of teaching American literature in universities of the republic.
