The album presents the works by the central master of Russian neoclassicism A.A.Ilyin (1806-1858), whose creative activities symbolize a pivotal stage in the development of Russian pictorial art. Ivanov considered his own creative work as the means of spiritual perfection and a service to the great Russian culture. The major part of the splendid illustrations: sketches, drawings and pictures portray the stages of creation of his magnificent work “The Appearance of Christ to People” (1837 -1857).
