A.Pozdneev (1851-1920) is an outstanding Russian orientalist, great specialist in Mongolian culture and Buddhism, the author of the books "Mongolia and Mongols", "The Life of Buddhistic Monasteries and Clergy in Mongolia", etc. He left a huge scientific heritage, including a rich collection of Buddhistic sculpture and icons. The book narrates about Pozdneev's life and investigations, the history of his collection. For the first time a complete catalogue of the sculpture and the archival documents that inform about the hard destiny of the collection are published. Color illustrations present the items of Pozdneev's collection that are kept in the State Oriental Museum and Samara Art Museum.
