A study of the Union of Writers in the years 1940-1991. The Union of Writers in Soviet Estonia differed both from the pre-war Estonian Writers' Union and from the current writers' association. It was an organization that operated under strict ideological supervision, but also enjoyed greater public support. The research relies primarily on archival sources. Some parts of the book have previously been published in Looming and Tuna magazines. The book was published for the 100th anniversary of the Estonian Writers' Union.
