The present edition by Boris Pilnyak starts a series of books dedicated to the polar subject. The author represented soviet vanguard of the 1920s-1930s. He was not so famous, but he was the one, in whose books events took place in the Arctic. The book is a work of art, but it was very much influenced by the author’s personal impressions from staying in high latitudes. One has to go through it to describe the red eyes of an angry walrus, its stinking breath and courage when defending itself.
