The monograph presents the results of a study of the content of heavy metals in water and bottom sediments of the shallow zone of the Northern Caspian. The degree of pollution of the marine environment with barium, iron, cadmium, cobalt, manganese, copper, arsenic, nickel, mercury, lead, zinc and chromium was considered depending on the main hydrological and hydrochemical parameters (water runoff of the Volga River, runoff of suspended matter and the volume of heavy metals entering with the runoff of the Volga River; salinity; concentration of oxygen dissolved in water; amount of suspended matter, dissolved and suspended organic carbon; hydrogen index and redox potential of water and pore water of bottom sediments; granulometric composition of soils). As a result of the analysis of long-term data, priority factors determining the spatio-temporal dynamics of heavy metals were established.
