The book collects various sources (memoirs, lifetime and posthumous articles, letters) about Yevhen Chikalenko (1861–1929), one of the leaders of Ukrainian nation-building and state-building. XIX - beginning 20th century, founder of a national periodical, philanthropist and writer, exemplary Ukrainian landowner. Their authors were his contemporaries: his student friend A. Verzhbytskyi, children Levko and Hanna, writers and publicists S. Cherkasenko, V. Koroliv-Stariy, V. Prokopovych, M. Slavynskyi, O. Shulgin, V. Leontovych, V. Doroshenko , D. Doroshenko, M. Korduba, peasants S. Stechyshyn and P. Rymarchuk and others. The collected materials reflect different periods and facets of E. Chikalenko's activity, fill his biography with new biographical facts. For the first time, we are introduced to E. Chikalenko, a student of Yelysavetgrad Real School and Kharkiv University (A. Verzhbytskyi), his family estate in the village of Pereshori in the Kherson region (L. Chikalenko), economic, publishing, literary work, charity work, etc.
