Xi Jinping is a Chinese statesman, politician, and party leader, the current General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee since 2012, the President of the People's Republic of China (PRC) since 2013, and the Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC (and the CPC). Since Xi not only serves as the country's head of state, but also holds leading positions in the party and military, he is sometimes referred to as China's "paramount leader". In 2016, the party officially awarded him the title of "core" leader. He has been a member of its governing body, the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, since 2007. Xi Jinping has been called China's most influential and popular leader since Deng Xiaoping, and is now called the most influential since Mao.
