A young engineer from Almaty, Asem, goes on a business trip to Atyrau. There, during the construction of a gas pipeline, she encounters not only work-related difficulties, but also unfamiliar social attitudes and gender prejudices. When her senior colleague, Larisa, disappears, Asem is left alone to face professional challenges and her own fears. This is a story about growing up, overcoming, finding oneself and an inner “beacon”. Written at the intersection of the genres of a road and industrial novel, it, with its inherent subtle psychology and documentary narration, leads the reader through observation of the heroine to a dialogue with oneself.
