This is a book of memoirs by Major General Stoyan Stoyanov (1913-1997), a squadron commander in the Air Force of the Kingdom of Bulgaria during World War II. Stoyanov and his unit engaged in life-and-death battles against hundreds of British and American bombers and fighters which attacked targets in Bulgaria during the war. Stoyanov is the most efficient Bulgarian fighter pilot of all time, with 15 air-to-air victories on his record. "We Defended You, Sofia" was first published in an abridged version in 1972 after a 15-year delay. This is its fifth expanded and revised edition.
