Olga Eliseevna knitted tablecloths. About 70 - the whole collection. It is a pity that she did not live to see her exhibition, organized by art critic Tatiana Garanskaya at the Good Thoughts Gallery. She was the first to recognize her work as artistic.
Olga Pavlenko was born in the village of Bolshaya Babina, Vitebsk region, on January 15, 1919. She graduated from a pedagogical school in Minsk and worked all her life as a primary school teacher. Before the war - in Zembin. When the war broke out, her father took her home to the village. Along the way, he threw away all the pedagogical books she had taken with her. He said, "Forget you're a teacher because the Germans are shooting you."
Since childhood, she felt a desire for beauty, loved to draw with chalk, a stick on the sand .... I saw a picture in the magazine of the Lithuanian artist Churlionis and redrawn. The house has always had beautiful bouquets of wildflowers. She loved to grow everything. She searched for magazines and mailed amazing plants. Summer was a joy: together with the children went for raspberries, mushrooms. Sun, water in the lakes, strawberries, haystacks, hills ...
And so, looking at the patterns on the bedspreads, tablecloths and bedspreads, you see in them all the joys and sorrows of a rural woman's life. Light and shadow, black and white, red and blue, yellow… It's amazing how you can combine so many colors in one tablecloth! It is impossible to teach. It can only be absorbed by nature. And this is the Vitebsk region, the northern region.
Olga Eliseevna started weaving her lace with a "tambourine" when she moved to her daughter in Minsk, at the age of 80, so as not to be bored. She asked to buy multicolored threads and rejoiced in them as a painter.
