The book can be seen as a unique attempt to approach the meaning and value of a literary work through form, through what has been considered in literary studies since antiquity to be one of the most reliable starting points for the classification of literary works. Clearly and concisely presenting the theoretical basis of his approach, the author takes as the subject of analysis the works of classics of Serbian literature (Janko Veselinovic, Ivo Andric, Milos Crnjanski, Branko Copic, Vasko Popa, Dusan Radovic, Dragoslav Mihailovic, Ljubomir Simovic, Matija Beckovic, Radovan Beli Markovic), interpreting both prose and poetry equally convincingly. By showing how form and meaning are connected in a literary work, Radivoje Mikic seeks to analytically prove, by pointing out the real characteristics of literary works, to what extent artistic value in literature is directly related to the right choice of literary form.
