The work represents an attempt of monographic complex research of the grammatical categories of the Avar verb; mood, tense, aspect, class, number, taxis. According to this aim, there were specified and explained structural, semantic and functional peculiarities of these categories in the Avar language. There was specified an inventory of formats with modal, temporal, taxis and aspectual semantics. In order to determine some formats in the required cases there were used excursus into the history of the language using the material of both dialects of the Avar language and kindred Andi languages.
