This book is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Veniamin V. Alekseev, full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a prominent historian and widely known expert in the last two centuries of Russian history. His pathway to Big Science considered in the book through his educational and research activities, his numerous books and talks at both national and international forums, was not easy and effortless.
