When the famous Czechoslovak photographer took this picture, Vendulka Voglova was on the verge of life and death. But the picture, which later turned a twelve-year-old girl into a symbol of the Holocaust, might not have arisen. Vendulka was Jewish, and Lucas was afraid to display these photos, fearing that the Nazis would find them. After almost 80 years, journalist Ondrej Kundra was able to find Vendulka in the United States and convince her to share the story of her difficult life.
