The book tells about the life and work of the outstanding artist and writer, traveler of the second half of the XIX - early XX century Vasily Vereshchagin. It was written on the basis of many years of research on archival documents, previously unpublished lifetime analytical reviews of Vereshchagin himself in Russian and foreign periodicals, statements by Russian and foreign contemporaries about him, and extensive correspondence.
