The Varna burial ground is a federal archaeological site dating back to the Middle Ages (late 4th – 10th centuries). Discovered in 1970 by V. A. Semenov, it is currently being studied by an expedition from the Udmurt Federal Research Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This publication represents a complete collection of the burial ground's materials from all years of excavation. The first volume covers the period 1970–1972. The work presents the history of the site's study and the biography of its first researcher, V. A. Semenov (1930–1999). Plans and descriptions of the burials and drawings of the grave goods are also included.
