Anatoly Dimarov (1922-2014) wrote "Urban Stories" in the years of his creative maturity. However, not only the experience of the author contributed to the fact that they took an undisputed place among the iconic works of his considerable work and gained popularity among readers. In times of imprisonment and the "thunder of victories" of socialist realism, these stories attracted attention primarily with unusual themes - family relationships, suffering and joy of the heroes. Not contrived, not artificial. After all, according to the writer, he did not go to the archives, did not look for eyewitnesses. He described what was touching in his life. And he always did it with great skill, because he had a special gift to see the human soul, to understand those who lived unnoticed by others, as if stealing and at the same time experiencing great shocks, suffering from injustice, sincerely rejoicing in unexpected gifts of fate. These difficult stories are thought-provoking: the author, usually psychologically subtly depicting the situation, withdraws from evaluative judgments.
