The monograph discusses the process of formation and functioning of Volyn city society in the early modern times. The problem of definition, classification and terminology of urban settlements is analyzed; functions of urban settlements and factors of their development are studied. The role of owners of private and old-age royal cities in the formation of the structure and features of the development of Volyn cities has been clarified. Particular attention is given to city government and the involvement of the White House, the Lentwaite, the Council, the Bench and the hired city officials. Urban litigation and its features in royal and private cities are described. The sources of formation of the city community, its legal status, social structure, ethnic and professional composition, as well as the place of nobility in the city society were traced.
