The book by Jozef Jablonicky was based on the extensive samizdat monograph Uprising 1944, which he completed in November 1988 and which could only be publicly published for the first time after the fall of the communist regime. The edition is not only a reedition of the book from 1990, but it is a text that has been thoroughly compared with the original typescript from the estate of Dr. Jablonicky and supplemented with previously unpublished medallions of important actors of the Uprising. Despite the efforts of the totalitarian government to make research difficult for the author, despite house searches, the looting of personal archives, the impossibility of traveling and meeting monuments, Jablonicky managed to write and preserve an impressive work. In the smallest detail and in controversy with the official insurgent historiography of the time, it captures the military preparations and the resistance-social development in Slovakia on the eve of the SNP. He restores the names and merits of some forgotten rebel destinies, throws others off the pedestals erected by normalizing historiography and points to their mistakes and failures.
