V.G.Belinsky was one of the central figures of Russian public thought in the 1830-1840's. In the monograph there is an attempt to reconstitute Belinsky's image with the help of his correspondence. Such questions as changes in the critic's ethic conception, development and creative formation of his individuality, stylistics of his letters are studied here. Thorough analysis of human spiritual state was not only a creative method used by the critic in his correspondence, but also a reflection of the process of Russian intelligentsia forming, a presage of the psychological realism of Turgenev, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky.
